Apple Opens App Store Submissions for iPhone Duo Apps

The company released Xcode 27.1 RC and Device Hub support so developers can build, preview and submit Duo-optimized apps ahead of the foldable's launch.

Overview

  • Apple began accepting iPhone Duo-optimized app submissions after releasing Xcode 27.1 Release Candidate so developers can recompile apps with Duo support and request App Store review.
  • Developers can use Device Hub to preview app layouts across the Duo’s folded, partially open and fully open poses to test how interfaces adapt to the 7.6-inch inner display and the book-like form.
  • To appear when customers get the phone, developers are racing to submit updates now because pre-orders start October 16 and deliveries and in-store availability begin October 23.
  • Apple requires updated Duo screenshots and app preview specs for Duo versions now and will make Duo screenshots mandatory for any new App Store submissions beginning April 2027.
  • A leaked clip from code explorer pdfu shows Quick Look offering a two-page, book-style document spread on the unfolded Duo, and earlier supply reports warn low assembly yields may limit the number of launch-day devices and shape the initial app ecosystem.
