Apple Music Rebrand Turns Sound Into Liquid Visual Identity

Apple released a behind-the-scenes film showing a two-note sonic mnemonic and filmed mineral-oil ripples that together form a new audio-visual brand for the service.

Overview

  • On Wednesday Apple published a video that confirmed the rebrand was created by sound-driven, in-camera methods and that the assets will begin appearing across Apple Music this week.
  • Designers played selected tones through a transducer into a shallow tank of mineral oil, filmed the ripples distorting an etched Apple Music logo, and used those filmed forms as the new visual stings.
  • British producer Fred Again.. worked with Nest Acoustics to compose a short two-note musical mnemonic that serves as the brand's sonic signature and was used to generate the visuals.
  • The relaunch pairs the filmed stings with updated typography, a reworked musical-note icon shaped from the liquid forms, and a black-and-white app icon seen in recent iOS 27.2 beta builds.
  • The project builds on Apple’s Liquid Glass design trend and practical, photographed effects, a move that links Apple Music more closely to live-venue promotion and could shift how streaming services use sonic branding.
