Apple Lifts Routine Siri AI Waitlist, Keeping Limits for High Demand

The support document change signals Apple is shifting from a staged test to broader access with server limits that could support paid upgrades.

Overview

  • Apple updated its support document on November 2 to say Siri AI will normally begin downloading automatically when users opt in and that a waitlist will be used only during periods of "high demand," replacing earlier language that said opt-ins would add users to a queue.
  • The change follows Apple’s staged rollout that began with iOS 27 in September and reflects the company’s testing of server capacity as it expands access beyond the initial controlled release.
  • Siri AI remains a beta feature that requires Apple Intelligence–capable hardware and specific OS versions across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro, so only eligible devices will see the automatic download after opting in.
  • The assistant combines world knowledge, personal context from apps like Messages and Mail, onscreen and visual awareness, and a standalone Siri app, but some functions rely on server-side models that are subject to daily usage limits.
  • By keeping server limits and warning that expanded access may be offered for a fee, Apple has signaled a demand-management approach that could both curb load spikes and create a future path for paid tiers of higher usage.
