Overview
- The new PROLED XDR MacBook Pro opened for preorder after Apple’s Oct. 28 event and will ship and reach stores on Nov. 6.
- The PROLED XDR display uses individually lit OLED pixels, adds built-in touch and Dynamic Island, and raises sustained and peak brightness for HDR work.
- Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips deliver big multithreaded gains over M1 Pro in heavy tasks, but the M5 Pro now starts at 24GB of RAM and tops out at a 4TB internal SSD unless you choose M5 Max.
- The OLED models are thinner and lighter than the 2021 MacBook Pros while keeping HDMI, SD and MagSafe, upgrading to Thunderbolt 5, and adding Wi‑Fi 7 plus a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View.
- Apple is positioning OLED touch as a premium option with higher prices while keeping non‑OLED M5 Pro models as a lower‑cost performance upgrade, and suppliers and developers are already adjusting to the new panel demand and macOS touch APIs.
