Apple Launches iPhone 17 Lineup With Ultra‑Thin Air, 120Hz Displays and Pro Liquid Cooling

Preorders open Sept. 12 with retail availability on Sept. 19.

Overview

  • Four models debut—iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max—starting at $799, $999, $1,099 and $1,199 in the U.S., with 256GB now the base storage across the range.
  • ProMotion 120Hz comes to every model, the iPhone 17 adds an always‑on display and up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness, and all get the tougher Ceramic Shield 2 front cover.
  • The Pro phones switch to an aluminum unibody with a laser‑welded vapor chamber using de‑ionized water for liquid cooling, pairing with A19 Pro chips for up to 40% better sustained performance and longer runtimes.
  • Imaging gets a major lift: the Pro models feature three 48MP rear cameras with up to 8x optical‑quality zoom and pro video tools like ProRes RAW and Genlock, while the iPhone 17 adds dual 48MP rear sensors and a new 18MP Center Stage front camera across the lineup.
  • Connectivity upgrades include Apple’s N1 chip with Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, eSIM‑only variants in markets such as the U.S., Canada and Japan, and an initial rollout to 63 countries followed by 22 more on Sept. 26.
