Overview

  • Apple replaces its 12+ and 17+ labels with three new tiers—13+, 16+ and 18+—for finer parental guidance
  • The updated ratings are live in public betas of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26 and watchOS 26 after automatic reassignments
  • By January 31, 2026, developers must complete a detailed questionnaire covering in-app controls, app capabilities, medical or wellness topics and violent content
  • Manual override options in App Store Connect allow developers to adjust automatic ratings that don’t match their intended audience
  • Final age assignments will vary by country based on local standards and align with COPPA, GDPR and new App Store Accountability Act provisions
