Overview
- Apple released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 to fix 163 tracked vulnerabilities across Apple Intelligence, Mail privacy, WebKit, and kernel components.
- The company said it has no evidence the flaws have been maliciously exploited and urged users to install the update through Settings → General → Software Update.
- Security researchers who demonstrated a 'perfect jailbreak' on earlier builds reported that most of the vulnerabilities used in that exploit are closed by 27.2.
- The update adds a 'Limit Motion Data' setting that prevents apps from accessing accelerometer and gyroscope data to stop 'shake to jump' behavior, and many users found the control appears only when the device is signed into a mainland China App Store account.
- Apple also pushed iOS 26.7.2 for older devices, several fixes credit outside teams including Calif and Anthropic Research, and the broad patch volume reflects a rise in external and AI-associated vulnerability research that could change how bugs are found and reported.
