Apple Halts Online Sales of Watch Series 9, Ultra 2 Amid Patent Dispute

The tech giant is pursuing legal and technical options to bring the devices back to customers as soon as possible.

  • Apple has halted online sales of its Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 in the U.S. following a patent dispute with medical technology company Masimo.
  • The U.S. International Trade Commission ruled that the devices violated patents held by Masimo, specifically related to blood oxygen monitoring.
  • Physical Apple Stores will end sales of the Series 9 and Ultra 2 on December 24, but other stores, such as Best Buy or Walmart, can still carry the watches.
  • Apple will also stop replacing out-of-warranty Apple Watch models with the blood oxygen feature covered by the patents in the ITC ruling.
  • Apple is pursuing a range of legal and technical options to ensure that Apple Watch is available to customers, including looking into ways to bring the devices back as soon as possible.
