Apple Expected to Unveil OLED Touchscreen MacBook Pro

If confirmed this would mark a major design shift that positions touch MacBook Pros as a premium, higher-priced tier.

Overview

  • Bloomberg-based reports say Apple will announce the new 14- and 16-inch OLED touchscreen MacBook Pros at its October 28 event with preorders the same day and possible in-store availability as early as November 6.
  • Leaked pricing discussed by Bloomberg puts the 14-inch starting at $2,899 in the U.S. and the 16-inch at least $3,399, which would place the touch models above Apple’s current non-touch MacBook Pros that the company plans to keep selling.
  • Reported hardware changes include OLED XDR touch displays, a Dynamic Island on the screen, thinner bezels and chassis, a redesigned hinge to prevent screen bounce, and a reworked cooling system to reduce weight and improve airflow.
  • The first touch models are said to ship with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and macOS developer betas show touch-specific UI elements such as dial-style menus that appear around a finger while keeping keyboard and trackpad primacy.
  • Reports trace the project to a multi-year effort approved by Tim Cook and led by John Ternus, and the shift could raise costs for buyers, create parallel touch and non-touch MacBook Pro lines, and strain supply if OLED panels remain limited.
