Overview

  • Apple has joined the subsidy scheme through its own online shop and brick-and-mortar stores in Beijing and Shanghai for the first time.
  • Eligible customers can receive up to 2,000 yuan off select iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and Mac models under the government-backed discounts.
  • Devices priced below 6,000 yuan qualify for a 15% reduction capped at 500 yuan, while certain higher-end Mac computers are eligible for the full 2,000 yuan subsidy.
  • Shanghai buyers must redeem discounts in one of eight Apple Stores, and Beijing shoppers can claim them through Apple’s online store using a local shipping address.
  • The move bypasses third-party platforms like JD.com and Taobao as Apple seeks to shore up market share amid forecasted 1.9% iPhone shipment declines driven by competition from Huawei and Xiaomi.
