Apple Inc. has overtaken Samsung Electronics Co. to become the world's top smartphone maker in 2023, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
Apple shipped nearly 235 million iPhones in 2023, capturing a fifth of the global market share.
Samsung, which had held the top spot since 2010, saw its shipments drop to 226.6 million, coming in second place.
Despite a 3.2% decline in the overall smartphone market in 2023, Apple was one of only two manufacturers in the top five to see an increase in growth.
Apple's success is attributed to the increasing trend of premium devices, aggressive trade-in offers, and interest-free financing plans.
