Overview
- Apple Pay and Wallet vice president Jennifer Bailey said at Money20/20 USA that digital U.S. passports in Wallet are coming soon, and Apple’s iOS 26 page lists the feature as arriving later this year.
- After setup in Wallet, travelers will be able to present the digital passport at select TSA checkpoints for identity verification during domestic travel.
- The digital passport will not replace a physical passport and cannot be used for international travel or border crossings.
- Apple removed earlier wording that a software update would be required, leaving unclear whether activation will come via an iOS point release or a server-side change.
- Apple says the system is secure, private, and REAL ID–compliant, will launch for U.S. passports only, and builds on Wallet ID support already available in 12 states and Puerto Rico.
