Apple commits 'multibillion dollars' to build 5G iPhone components in U.S. with Broadcom

  • Apple announced a new partnership with Broadcom to develop 5G radio frequency components and wireless connectivity components as part of Apple's $430 billion investment in the U.S. economy.
  • Broadcom will design and build 5G components, including FBAR filters, in its America-based facilities as part of the deal.
  • The partnership will enable Broadcom to continue to invest in critical automation projects and upskilling with technicians and engineers.
  • Apple already supports more than 1,100 jobs in Broadcom's Fort Collins, Colorado, FBAR filter manufacturing facility.
  • The deal comes amid rumors Apple is developing its own in-house 5G modem and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips to move away from relying on Qualcomm and Broadcom.
