Apple Brings Tap to Pay on iPhone to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Monaco, and Norway

Local payment platforms enable the rollout to broaden Apple’s hardware-free checkout across Europe.

Overview

  • Merchants can accept contactless payments directly on an iPhone without extra hardware, using NFC with optional PIN entry and accessibility support.
  • Launch partners include SumUp and Revolut in Estonia and Lithuania; SumUp in Latvia; Adyen and BNP Paribas in Monaco; and Adyen, Nexi, PayPal, Stripe, SumUp, Surfboard Payments, and Viva.com in Norway.
  • The service works with Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets, with transactions encrypted and processed in the Secure Element.
  • An iPhone XS or newer with a partner-enabled app is required, and checkout involves presenting the seller’s iPhone for the buyer to tap a card or device.
  • With this expansion, Tap to Pay on iPhone is available in 43 countries and regions, and in Norway it also supports BankAxept via Surfboard Payments.
