  • Apple released a test package labeled “iOS 26.3 (a)” for users on the iOS/iPadOS 26.3 and macOS Tahoe 26.3 betas.
  • The release notes specify the package is for testing only and includes no security fixes.
  • The feature is managed in Settings under Privacy & Security > Background Security Improvements, not in Software Update, and it can install automatically if enabled.
  • Installed test packages can be removed from the same screen, which restarts the device to roll back the update.
  • Apple says the mechanism targets interim protections for Safari, WebKit, and other system libraries, warns of rare compatibility issues and possible temporary removals, and it replaces the earlier Rapid Security Response that saw a display bug in 2023.
