Overview
- iOS 27, which rolled out on Monday, Sept. 14, shows a setup prompt that asks users to 'Share Audio and Text' or select 'Not Now' when they enable Siri AI.
- Users can change or revoke the opt-in at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence.
- Apple says opted-in audio, transcripts, and request data are tied to a rotating device identifier not linked to an Apple account and may be kept for up to two years with a subset retained longer for human review.
- Turning off the optional audio-sharing program does not stop Apple from using computer-generated Siri transcripts or aggregated device analytics under its existing default practices.
- The move marks a clear shift from Apple’s earlier public stance that it could build Siri without direct customer data and comes as the company faces pressure to close performance gaps with rivals, while questions remain about whether new Apple Watch continuous-listening data will ever be included.
