Appalachian State Names Dowell Loggains as New Head Football Coach

The former South Carolina offensive coordinator takes over after the Mountaineers' first losing season in over a decade.

Dowell Loggains, 44, has been hired as Appalachian State's head football coach on a five-year contract running through 2029.
Loggains brings extensive experience, having served as an offensive coordinator and play-caller in both college football and the NFL, including stints with South Carolina, Arkansas, and multiple NFL teams.
He replaces Shawn Clark, who was fired after a 5-6 season, marking App State's first losing record since 2013.
At South Carolina, Loggains helped develop standout players, including quarterback LaNorris Sellers and running back Raheim 'Rocket' Sanders, leading the SEC's third-ranked rushing offense in 2024.
Appalachian State will formally introduce Loggains at a press conference on Monday, as he aims to rebuild the program's championship tradition.
