Overview

  • The 47-year-old entered a Bernhard-Prager-Gasse supermarket under a house ban, stumbled and fell onto his head before ambulance crews took him to Apolda hospital.
  • A hospital-administered breathalyzer recorded a blood alcohol level of 3.8 ‰, nearly five times Germany’s legal driving limit.
  • Shortly after admission, he bolted from the hospital, leading staff to summon police who located and returned him to medical care.
  • Ninety minutes later he reentered the supermarket, concealed alcohol and sweets and violently resisted officers who attempted to retrieve the items.
  • A court ordered him into a sobering cell overnight; he was released the next morning and now faces charges of robbery theft, trespassing and resisting enforcement officers.
