Apeldoorn Hands About 100 Municipal Artworks to CODA, Opens Resident Sale Weekend

The plan puts visibility first, preserving key pieces at CODA, with remaining works moving into local homes.

Overview

  • Apeldoorn confirmed the transfer of about 100 works to CODA Museum and CODA Archief so they can be conserved, exhibited and restored as needed.
  • Stichting Onterfd Goed is selling remaining municipal works to Apeldoorn residents on 20–21 September at Zwitsal Buitenstad (11:00–16:00) with a 30% weekend discount.
  • The works being deaccessioned are mainly from 1970–2000, with many originating from the BKR scheme and the former municipal art loan collection.
  • Officials cite limited space and a goal that publicly funded art should be seen rather than kept in storage as reasons for the redistribution.
  • The collection moves follow Apeldoorn’s late‑August hosting of DE OPENING, with the city also reporting 12,500 visits to Open Monumentendagen as its cultural season stays active.
