AP CID and DoT Dismantle SIM-Box Telecom Fraud in Multi-State Raids

Authorities describe a SIM-box scheme that converted VoIP traffic into local calls to evade charges.

Overview

  • Police arrested 14 suspects, including two Vietnam nationals identified as Ho Hu Duy and Tuan Anhpham.
  • Coordinated searches were carried out in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Rourkela, Nalanda, Arambol and Kolkata based on inputs from the DoT and Customs.
  • Investigators seized 14 SIM boxes, about 1,496 SIM cards, 22 mobile phones, eight routers and other electronics used to route calls.
  • The DoT’s Sanchar Sathi CHAKSHU module flagged suspicious calling patterns in PedagantyadaGajuwaka, leading to confirmation of illegal SIM-box operations.
  • Officials estimate roughly ₹20 crore in losses within Andhra Pradesh, with a registered case and further raids and money-trail inquiries in progress.
