Overview

  • AOL and Yahoo have confirmed that dial-up internet, along with AOL Dialer and AOL Shield browser, will be discontinued on September 30, 2025.
  • The move removes the dial-up component from legacy AOL Advantage, CompuServe and Netscape Connect plans as part of a routine product evaluation.
  • A small group of remaining subscribers, many in rural or broadband-underserved areas, must find alternative internet services within weeks.
  • The U.S. Census Bureau estimated roughly 163,000 U.S. homes relied on dial-up connections in 2023, though active AOL dial-up customers are likely far fewer.
  • AOL has provided customer support contacts and transition assistance to help users migrate off the legacy service.
