a&o Hostels Enters London With Docklands Riverside Acquisition

The Thames-side hotel opens in November with phased £21 million refurbishments as part of a €500 million portfolio push.

Overview

  • The company bought the former DoubleTree by Hilton Docklands Riverside to establish its first London site and third in the UK.
  • The 17th-century complex on the River Thames offers 500 rooms and about 2,100 beds and will remain open during renovation.
  • Opening under the a&o brand is slated for November 2025, and reservations are already available through official channels.
  • Guests will have a complimentary electric river taxi to Canary Wharf, an on-site pier, a riverside bar, and about 50 underground parking spaces, with Elizabeth Line access nearby and roughly 30 minutes to London City Airport.
  • The purchase sits within a €500 million expansion and modernization program backed by StepStone Group and Proprium Capital Partners, and the price was not disclosed.
