Anvisa Orders Recall of Tomato Sauce Lot Over Suspected Glass, Targets Supplements in Parallel Action

Acting on a Dutch RASFF warning, the agency formalized the measures in the federal register.

Overview

  • A resolution published in the Diário Oficial da União suspends sale, distribution, import, publicity and consumption of Mastromauro Granoro Passata de Pomodoro Di Puglia lot LM283, which Anvisa says is the only affected lot.
  • Importer Dale Log was directed to carry out the recall after an EU alert cited a production error that could leave glass fragments in jars of the Italian-made product exported to several countries.
  • In the same measure, Anvisa ordered recall of Neovite Visão supplement lots 25G073, S25C004, S25C003, S25C002 and S25G072 for using an unauthorized source of zeaxanthin (Capsicum annuum L.) and exceeding limits for the Caramelo IV additive.
  • Bausch + Lomb said it initiated a voluntary recall of the listed Neovite Visão lots, citing a discrepancy in information declared to regulators and reporting no identified safety risk to consumers so far.
  • Anvisa also ordered the seizure of Ervas Brasil supplements over lack of sanitary licensing, unauthorized ingredients and irregular therapeutic claims, and advised consumers to check lot numbers and stop using affected products.
