Anvisa Bans Sales and Advertising of Raia Drogasil’s Needs and Bwell Medicines

The regulator says the retailer lacks authorization to operate as a drug manufacturer under Brazilian law.

Overview

  • The precautionary resolution took effect upon publication on Dec. 23 and orders immediate removal of the products from drogasil.com.br and drogaraia.com.br.
  • The ban applies to all items classified as medicines and extends to any person, company or media outlet that sells or promotes them.
  • Anvisa notes that over-the-counter products are still regulated as medicines and may only be manufactured by entities with specific authorization.
  • Raia Drogasil says it does not manufacture the products, which it says are made by licensed pharmaceutical companies and registered with Anvisa, and it will file an administrative appeal.
  • The measure does not cover hygiene and beauty items under the brands, and Anvisa separately barred Solubrillho cleaning products made up to April 14, 2024 for lacking an identifiable, authorized manufacturer.
