Antonov Secures Lease for Leipzig An-124 Maintenance Hangar

Privately financed on 24,000 m², the new hangar aims to bolster NATO-standard overhauls, anchoring Leipzig as Antonov’s Western logistics hub.

Overview

  • Antonov Logistics Salis GmbH signed a ground lease for 24,000 square metres at Leipzig/Halle Airport’s northern area to build the maintenance facility.
  • The Ukrainian subsidiary will fully finance construction, with delivery of the hangar slated for the first half of 2027.
  • The hangar will support NATO-standard overhauls of An-124 heavy-lift aircraft under the SALIS program.
  • Since the 2022 invasion, Antonov has stationed six An-124s at Leipzig/Halle after closing its Ukrainian airspace operations, dubbing the airport its ‘second home’.
  • On July 11, the sixth An-124 flew clandestinely from near Kyiv to Leipzig with German government approval following its modernization with Western components.
