Antisemitic Graffiti Discovered at Rouen Synagogue During Hanukkah
Authorities have launched an investigation into the hate-filled vandalism, which coincides with the anniversary of the 2015 Hyper Cacher attack.
- Antisemitic tags, including swastikas and hateful messages, were found on the synagogue in Rouen, the rabbi's residence, and a nearby law office between December 29 and early January.
- The graffiti included messages such as 'Hitler acteur' and 'Juifs pédophiles violeurs à gazer,' prompting a public outcry and condemnation from local officials.
- The synagogue in Rouen was previously targeted in May 2024, when an arson attempt led to the death of the perpetrator, a 24-year-old Algerian man, during a police confrontation.
- Additional antisemitic graffiti, including Stars of David and the word 'juif,' was discovered on buildings in Saint-Mandé and Vincennes near the Hyper Cacher site, marking the 10th anniversary of the 2015 attack.
- The French Interior Minister noted that antisemitic incidents disproportionately affect the Jewish community, which represents less than 1% of the population, and pledged swift action to identify those responsible.
