Recorded On-Video Antisemitic Incident Part of 388% Increase of Such Incidents Amid Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Anti-Defamation League Report

A Jewish mother and her child were verbally assaulted in Washington D.C by a man who refused to move out of a bike lane, forcing them into dangerous traffic. The incident was captured on video and shared widely online, with increasing incidents of antisemitism and bias.
The mother, known on social media as @DCTrikeMom, reported that the man's anger escalated after she insisted on his legal obligation to keep the bike lane clear. His antisemitic remarks, including calling Jews 'the devil', emerged only after his initial refusal to comply.
The incident coincides with a 388% surge in antisemitic incidents amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as reported by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian incidents have also substantially increased, according to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).
The mother expressed concern over the divisive nature of discussions about the conflict, expressing hope for an end to violence that would ensure the safety of all children, regardless of nationality or religion.
Despite the ordeal, @DCTrikeMom said she has 'no desire' for the man to face trouble over the incident. Instead, she wishes to hold a less hostile conversation with him in future, and advocates for better education and enforcement around bike lane use.
