Antique Weathervane Stolen 40 Years Ago Returned to Vermont

The historic 1910 copper weathervane, taken from White River Junction station in 1983, was recovered through an auction house and returned last week.

The weathervane, depicting a steam locomotive, was stolen from a Vermont railway station in 1983.
It was consigned to Sotheby's auction house, which identified it as stolen with the help of Arts Loss Register.
Sotheby's covered the $2,300 shipping cost to return the weathervane to Vermont.
The Vermont Agency of Transportation is coordinating with the state curator to find a new display location.
