Anticorruption Prosecutors Move to Reopen $LIBRA Case Against Javier Milei

The PIA has taken charge of the criminal action and appealed the October 23 dismissals to press technical probes and restore procedural review.

Overview

  • The Procuraduría de Investigaciones Administrativas (PIA), led by fiscal Sergio Rodríguez, formally entered the $LIBRA file, assumed the exercise of the criminal action and lodged an appeal against the sobreseimientos that cleared President Javier Milei, his sister Karina and nine others.
  • The PIA asked Juzgado Federal N°8, currently subrogated by Judge Daniel Rafecas, to reopen the investigation and left a subsidiary appeal ready so the Cámara Federal can review the closure if Rafecas denies the request.
  • Two NGOs that act as amicus curiae, INECIP and CIPCE, asked a federal general prosecutor to seek nullification of the October 23 rulings on the grounds that victims and querellantes were not notified and were denied the PGN 41/23 review mechanism and rights under article 80 and Law 27.372.
  • The PIA says key technical measures remain undone, naming blockchain tracing, handset forensics, fund‑flow reconstruction and recovery of communications, and it points to indicia such as multiple wallet purchases seconds before a presidential post and large transfers to a collector vault as reasons to probe further.
  • The move exposes an institutional split between the original prosecutor Eduardo Taiano and the PIA, raises renewed political scrutiny because the sitting president is named, and could prolong litigation while courts decide whether the probe resumes and victims regain participatory rights.
