Overview

  • The incident occurred July 18 on the 15.8 km Stage 11 circuit around Toulouse just 25 meters from the finish as Jonas Abrahamsen edged out Mauro Schmid.
  • The demonstrator wore a keffiyeh and a shirt reading “Israel out of the Tour,” targeting the Israel Premier-Tech team despite its absence of Israeli riders.
  • A guard intercepted him, shoved him against and over a barrier to neutralize the threat without injuring competitors or delaying the sprint.
  • Pro-Palestinian group BDS had called for peaceful protests against Israel Premier-Tech at events like the Amstel Gold Race in April and the Giro d’Italia in May.
  • The protester has been detained, and with no organizer statement released, the Tour presses on through its remaining stages toward the Champs-Élysées finale.
