The inscription read 'Nique Israël,' a derogatory phrase against Israel, and was promptly removed by local authorities.
The incident occurred amidst a rise in antisemitic acts, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region.
The Prefecture of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes condemned the act as 'abject' and announced the investigation via social media.
Police have yet to identify the perpetrators, and the investigation is being led by the judicial authorities.
