Anti-government extremist pleads guilty in foiled plot to kidnap Michigan governor
- Shawn Michael Fix plans to change his not-guilty plea in the foiled plot to kidnap Michigan's governor.
- Fix is one of five men charged with providing material support for an act of terrorism in the scheme to abduct Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2020.
- Fix is also charged with possessing a firearm while committing a felony.
- The defendants were anti-government extremists who were angered by Whitmer’s policies at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The plot was thwarted by informants and undercover FBI agents, and four men were convicted in federal court in 2022.
