Anthropic’s Claude Can Now Send Gmail Messages Automatically

Paid users can link Gmail through a Google Workspace connector that lets Claude draft and dispatch email under admin-controlled approval settings.

Overview

  • Anthropic updated Claude on Aug. 18–19, 2026 so the Google Workspace connector can draft, reply to, forward, and send Gmail messages from a linked account.
  • The feature is available only to paid Claude plans and requires users to connect their Gmail before Claude can access inboxes or take actions.
  • By default Claude asks for user approval before sending each message, but Team and Enterprise owners can configure accounts to allow automatic sends without per-message review.
  • Anthropic says connector data from Gmail, Drive, and Calendar will not be used to train its models, and the connector also expands Drive and Calendar actions such as searching, moving, sharing files, and managing events.
  • Public reaction is split: some users praise the productivity gains, while others warn the assistant can misunderstand context or hallucinate content and urge strict admin controls and review policies.
