Overview
- Anthropic, which announced the update Tuesday, combined Claude’s separate Cowork and chat memories into a single shared memory so the assistant carries context across both interfaces.
- The unified memory updates on the fly during extended Cowork sessions instead of only saving after a chat ends, so project details and preferences stay current while you work.
- Memory is enabled by default for Free, Pro, and Max plans on web, desktop, and mobile while Enterprise and Teams accounts have memory off by default with admin governance controls.
- By default Claude will not save topics it deems sensitive, users can opt in to include those topics, and Anthropic says some items — like SSNs, government IDs, criminal history, immigration status, and AUP violations — are never stored.
