Overview
- Anthropic announced on Wednesday that it is merging Claude Chat and Claude Cowork into a single interface so conversations can flow from quick questions to multi-step tasks without switching products.
- The company launched Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta and moved Claude Design into conversations so users can draft, edit, share, present, and export documents and slides from the same chat.
- The staged rollout begins for Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop, and mobile with Team, Free, and enterprise timelines to follow and administrators able to control when new features arrive.
- By default Claude will ask before taking actions to preserve user control, but Anthropic also lets users permit more autonomous task execution and keep Cowork assets like chats, projects, connectors, and skills available.
- Observers warn the change could raise compute and cost pressures because agent-style tasks use far more tokens than simple chat queries, and the move positions Claude more directly against OpenAI and Google while keeping Claude Code separate.
