Overview
- Anthropic, which announced the change on Sept. 16, 2026, combined its Claude Chat chatbot and agentic Cowork features into a single Claude interface.
- The company launched Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta and folded Claude Design into conversations so users can draft, edit and export documents and presentations without switching tools.
- The update begins rolling out to Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop and mobile with Team and Free plans scheduled to follow over the coming weeks.
- Anthropic kept user and admin controls intact by defaulting Claude to ask before acting and letting enterprise admins gate the new beta features, and it left the separate coding product Claude Code unchanged for now.
- Researchers and company filings show agentic, multi-step tool calls use far more tokens than simple chat, which could raise compute bills and affect pricing and enterprise adoption as AI platforms move toward all-in-one assistants.
