Overview
- Anthropic suspended access to its most capable models after U.S. export controls took effect on June 12 and said it could not reliably verify user nationality in real time.
- After technical talks and vetting, U.S. export controls were lifted on June 30 and Fable 5 was redeployed globally with updated safeguards.
- The redeployment adds a targeted safety classifier that the company says blocks the reported jailbreak technique in more than 99% of cases and routes flagged requests to the less capable Opus 4.8.
- Eligible Pro, Max, Team and selected Enterprise subscribers get a temporary 50% weekly usage allocation for Fable 5 through July 7, after which access will move to a credit-based system.
- Mythos 5 remains restricted to vetted defenders under Project Glasswing as Anthropic works with government and industry partners on a common framework for testing, reporting and classifying AI jailbreaks.
