Overview
- The capability is live in the Claude Desktop app for paid individual Pro and Max users on macOS 15 or later and must be enabled manually by the user.
- Claude runs in separate background windows so it does not hijack the keyboard or mouse and it will request permission before using the full screen.
- When app APIs or connectors are not available Claude falls back to reading the screen and simulating mouse clicks and keyboard input to interact with software.
- Anthropic enforces per-session consent, shows privacy prompts before sensitive operations, and offers app-level controls so users can limit what the assistant can access.
- The feature is tuned into two modes, Claude Cowork for productivity and Claude Code for development, includes a mobile Dispatch to start jobs remotely, and builds on an October 2024 beta while Team and Enterprise access remain unavailable as the company says the system is methodical and slower than a human on complex tasks.
