Anthropic Leases SpaceX’s Colossus to Power Finance AI Push

The added horsepower removes a key bottleneck for Claude in large finance workflows.

Overview

  • Anthropic, which showcased ten finance agents in Manhattan with JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon on Tuesday, disclosed access to all of SpaceX’s Colossus 1 supercomputer and on Thursday rolled out higher Claude usage quotas.
  • The SpaceX deal gives Anthropic more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs, enabling Claude Code Pro and Max to double from 5 to 10 hours a month with peak-time throttling removed, and Claude Opus API throughput to jump to 500,000 input tokens per minute in Tier 1 and up to 10 million in Tier 4.
  • The new agents handle core Wall Street tasks such as building pitch decks and financial models, reviewing earnings, screening KYC, closing the month, and auditing statements, with integrations into Microsoft Office and data from Dun & Bradstreet, Guidepoint, IBISWorld, Verisk, and Moody’s; finance now accounts for about 40% of Anthropic’s top 50 customers.
  • Investors marked the shift as FactSet fell about 8.1% and Morningstar dropped more than 3%, with S&P Global and Moody’s also under pressure after CEO Dario Amodei warned some SaaS vendors could tip into insolvency as workflows move to agents.
  • Rivals are racing to match these workflows as firms like Perplexity, Rogo, and Hebbia push finance tools, while regulators probe Anthropic’s supply-chain risks and the company explores a potential SpaceX partnership for orbital data centers.
