Anthropic Launches Claude Duet, a Proactive AI Agent for Paid U.S. Users

Overview

  • Anthropic announced Claude Duet as a waitlisted research preview on October 21, available only to U.S. Claude Pro and Max subscribers for now.
  • Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, uses a cloud virtual machine with its own browser, and carries over a user’s existing Claude memory, skills, and connectors.
  • The agent links to more than 6,000 connectors in the Claude Marketplace, letting it monitor email, calendars and business tools and perform tasks such as scheduling, invoicing, dashboards, and purchases with user approval.
  • Work Duet performs in the background counts toward a user’s existing Claude plan limits, meaning proactive automation can accelerate how quickly subscribers reach their monthly usage caps.
  • Anthropic has added safety guardrails including a dedicated classifier, explicit approval steps for payments, signatures and deletions, blocked high‑risk money moves, and plans to gather preview feedback before expanding to teams and other markets.
