Anthropic Brings Claude Into Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

The public beta lets paid Claude users edit and create Workspace files in place through connectors that respect Google sharing permissions.

Overview

  • Anthropic released a public‑beta add‑on that embeds a Claude sidebar inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides and is available to paid Claude users through the Google Workspace Marketplace.
  • Once installed, Claude can read the open file, see selected text, cells or slides, and propose or apply changes directly from the sidebar.
  • The add‑on defaults to an “Ask before edits” approval workflow so users can preview suggested changes and it also offers an “Accept all edits” option for faster completion.
  • Claude’s Workspace features are tailored by app: in Docs it rewrites and restyles text, in Sheets it can write formulas, build pivot tables and run Python for data cleaning, and in Slides it can create slides from existing layouts and flag layout or readability problems.
  • New connectors let Claude create or edit Google files from chat while honoring existing sharing settings, Team and Enterprise owners must enable connectors, and reporting cites Pro beta pricing starting at $20 per month as the integration positions Claude as a third‑party alternative to Google’s native AI.
