Anthropic Adds Native File Creation to Claude in Preview Rollout

Anthropic’s design uses a private internet-connected sandbox with explicit warnings about potential data risk.

Overview

  • The feature is live as a preview for Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers on the web and desktop app, with Pro access promised in the coming weeks.
  • Claude generates real Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and PDF files by writing and executing code inside a private compute environment with internet access.
  • Users enable it under Settings > Features > Experimental by toggling on “Upgraded file creation and analysis,” then can upload data or describe tasks and download results or save to Google Drive.
  • Anthropic cautions that internet access in the sandbox may expose user data, advising close chat monitoring, and security reporting flags risks such as prompt injection and possible data exfiltration.
  • Anthropic’s updated terms allow training on conversations unless users opt out, with Mashable reporting a Sept. 28 deadline to disable data use in privacy settings.
