Anthropic Adds In-Chat File Creation to Claude for Spreadsheets, Slides and PDFs

The preview runs in a private compute environment that writes code to produce finished files.

Overview

  • Claude can now create and edit spreadsheets, presentations, documents and PDFs in chat, including building formula-driven sheets, converting PDFs to slides and turning raw data into analyses with charts and written insights.
  • The feature is live as a preview for Max, Team and Enterprise subscribers on Claude.ai and the desktop app, with Pro access promised in the coming weeks.
  • To use it, enable the Experimental setting labeled "Upgraded file creation and analysis," then generate files from prompts or uploads and download results or save them to Google Drive.
  • Anthropic warns the feature provides internet access that may put user data at risk and advises closely monitoring chats.
  • Mashable reports Anthropic updated its terms to train on conversations unless users opt out by Sept. 28 via the "Help improve Claude" privacy setting.
