Another Atmospheric River to Soak Pacific Northwest Through Wednesday

State and federal teams have mobilized across Washington.

Overview

  • Forecasters expect 2 to 6 inches of additional rain in western Washington with locally higher amounts, gusts up to 40–50 mph, and accumulating Cascade snow developing by midweek.
  • Rivers already running high could see sharp rises, with the Skagit forecast to reach major flood stage and the Snohomish near major by Tuesday night into Wednesday; impacts are expected to be lower than last week but renewed flooding remains likely in hard-hit areas.
  • Puget Sound Energy reported 46 active outages affecting more than 6,000 customers Monday morning and has staged crews, equipment and local storm bases for further wind-driven failures.
  • Washington’s State Emergency Operations Center is fully activated, a FEMA urban search-and-rescue team is deployed, and state fire resources were mobilized Dec. 14 to support flood response in south King County.
  • Recent slides and washouts, including damage to U.S. Highway 2, highlight ongoing landslide and travel hazards, with mountain pass conditions expected to deteriorate as snow returns.
