  • Officers from the NYPD’s 76th Precinct responded to a 7:50 a.m. 911 call at Burrell’s Brooklyn residence on June 17, finding her unconscious and unresponsive.
  • Emergency medical services pronounced Burrell dead at the scene; no prior health issues have been publicly reported as the Office of Chief Medical Examiner conducts an autopsy.
  • Burrell launched her television career as a sous chef on Iron Chef America, hosted Secrets of a Restaurant Chef for nine seasons, then mentored on Worst Cooks in America for 27 seasons.
  • Just two weeks before her death, she partnered with CareRight to launch culinary programs at rehabilitation centers in Florida; she had also been taking improv classes at Second City in New York.
  • Burrell supported City Harvest, the Garden of Dreams Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; she is survived by husband Stuart Claxton, stepson Javier, mother Marlene and sister Jane.
