Anime Inspired Son Paul's Path Into Cooking, Herrmann Says

Herrmann says he offered guidance, not direction, as Paul progressed from apprenticeship to a restaurant role in Düsseldorf.

Overview

  • Alexander Herrmann told Süddeutsche Zeitung that Paul began watching cooking-themed anime at about 14 to 15 and still enjoys them.
  • He recalled Paul recreating an anime dish as one of his first efforts, producing a mackerel patty on rice with a soy-like broth he called “totally out there.”
  • Herrmann said his son grew up around kitchens, joining courses early and once cleaning scampi while sitting on the counter during a TV show.
  • He recounted that Paul even sold his father's autograph cards to cooking course participants for one or two euros, which he found “totally embarrassing.”
  • After completing a chef apprenticeship, Paul now works in a Düsseldorf restaurant, according to the dpa report of the interview.
