Overview
- Long-distance trains between Halle/Leipzig and Berlin run less frequently and divert via Dessau from 24 September, adding up to 60 minutes, with no stop in Dessau due to short platforms.
- Regional lines face extensive replacement buses, including the suspension of S2 and S8 between Bitterfeld and Lutherstadt Wittenberg and the RE3 between Wittenberg and Berlin, with journeys taking far longer; RE4 is bused between Berlin and Oehna.
- Service patterns shift unevenly: Lutherstadt Wittenberg loses all long-distance stops until 13 December, Halle loses about two-thirds of direct Berlin links, Bitterfeld gains hourly direct trains to Berlin and Munich, Leipzig keeps an hourly Berlin ICE and doubles Munich ICEs, and Dresden’s IC/ECs use Ostbahnhof or Gesundbrunnen instead of Südkreuz.
- DB InfraGO plans 33 new switches, 59 renewals, nearly 100 kilometers of new track and 38 kilometers of refurbishment on the Berlin–Bitterfeld section.
- DB says updated timetables are in ticketing apps as passenger group Pro Bahn faults the communication; standard compensation applies only for extra delays of at least 60 minutes, replacement buses accept the Deutschland-Ticket, and bicycle space is limited.
