Angels’ Kenley Jansen Managing Rib Pain as Team Holds Off on IL Move

The Angels will reassess him Friday after recent struggles linked to a weight-room rib issue.

Overview

  • Jansen said he injured his left-side ribs during a workout, and the pain has hampered his last two appearances.
  • He struggled Sunday and took Tuesday’s loss to the Reds after loading the bases, then declined to exit during a mound visit from Ray Montgomery and a trainer.
  • The Angels have not placed him on the injured list, and Jansen and Montgomery expressed confidence he can avoid an IL stint.
  • Jansen has received treatment, will rest through Wednesday and Thursday, and is slated for further evaluation on Friday; he said an MRI is not planned at this time.
  • To bolster the staff, the club recalled right-hander Chase Silseth after José Soriano went on the paternity list, while Jansen remains day-to-day with 23 saves and a 3.00 ERA this season.
