Angeli’s 417 Yards, OT TD ft SySyracuse Past UConn 27–20 After Late Rally

Coach Fran Brown ordered postgame sprints to underscore lingering concerns about protection, red-zone execution and a starting tackle’s indefinite foot injury.

Overview

  • Syracuse erased a 17-6 fourth-quarter deficit with a 53-yard strike to Justus Ross-Simmons and a late Yasin Willis 3-yard run plus a two-point conversion to briefly lead before UConn forced overtime.
  • Steve Angeli went 33-for-53 for 417 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, then hit Ross-Simmons for the winning 6-yard score on the first possession of overtime.
  • Freshman linebacker Antoine Deslauriers broke up UConn’s final two passes, including a fourth-and-3 throw from the 4-yard line in overtime to seal the game.
  • UConn controlled much of the day behind a disruptive defense but punted six straight times in the second half; Skyler Bell’s one-handed fourth-down grab set up the last-second tying field goal.
  • Starting left tackle Trevion Mack missed the game with a right foot injury and has no return timeline as Syracuse’s line rotation continued and early red-zone failures persisted.
