Anfield Honors Matt Beard as Fundraiser for Family Surpasses £37,000

Donations have poured in after fans and players paid respects to the former Liverpool Women’s manager with a minute’s silence and black armbands.

Overview

  • Liverpool and Southampton observed a minute’s silence at Anfield, with players wearing black armbands and stadium tributes displaying “Matt Beard 1978–2025.”
  • Liverpool Women will also pay respects at Wednesday’s League Cup match against Sunderland in St Helens.
  • A JustGiving campaign launched by broadcaster Jacqui Oatley to help Beard’s wife Debbie and children Harry and Ellie exceeded its initial £5,000 target and now stands above £37,000.
  • The fundraiser drew several hundred individual donations within about a day, with Oatley saying she was “blown away” by the community’s support.
  • Beard, 47, managed Liverpool Women to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014 and won the FA Women’s Championship on his 2021 return before later taking charge of Burnley Women.
